I don't understand the correlation between Donald Trump winning the election, the subsequent media scare over the rise in new Nazis, and... metal shows.

The second you try to suppress people's right to free artistic expression you forfeit your right to complain about inequality.  This sudden outcry that black metal should be stifling its themes and personal inspirations to appease a shallow political movement is disgusting.

On the other hand, though, it is a little gratifying to see black metal returning to its roots of inaccessibility and provocation.  It was never meant to be something that everyone liked.  Inb4 edgelord.

These were along my thoughts. Black metal has withstood the test of time against Christianity, yellow journalism, many forms of censorship, and commoditization. There's no reason to worry about misguided backlash from Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

This may be a good thing as well; maybe recent years have marked the end of hipster infatuation with the genre.

On a side note, I was both unimpressed and somewhat disheartened that Incantation was lumped in with all of it. They're not a favorite of mine, but they are decent death metal, and they are all guys who mean well. They have helped to coordinate a lot of shows and tours around the tristate area, and I've seen them set up well curated buy/sell/trade tables at even the shittiest of shows. A lot of my personal collection was bought straight from John himself, and he took a good-sized stack of my old band's CDs at a very fair price.
