Your local scene

so post bands from your area, basically.

Deadspawn - Black/death metal from Phoenix. These guys are really cool, one of the first bands I saw when I moved out here. I try to make as many shows of theirs as I can because they fucking kill it live. the studio recordings are alright but can't hold a flame to their live sound. Cool dudes too. Their drummer plays in Empyreal who I have posted about before in the black metal subforum.

Azerine - Black metal from Tuscon. I'm not too familiar with this one, I saw them live once but I was very drunk. The guy who spearheads this project has a few other projects and bands he does, including a pretty cool one concerned with the Japanese suicide forest. I can't remember it's name though, and it was rejected by metalarchives for sounding "too digital," even though he played and recorded all the instruments himself. Guess he was tickled pink about that since that was exactly the sound he was going for.

Sovereign - Black metal from Phoenix. This is a good one, I've seen them a few times but, again, drunk. They put on a stellar show. A few of their members play in other bands such as Gatecreeper and Avichi. Actually their guitarist does stuff with Woe and Young And In The Way during their tours, which I didn't know about until YAITW's tour with Taake.

Take Over And Destroy - Black metal/sludge from Phoenix. I was really into this band back when I was in California and didn't know they were local to this area until I moved here. They've got a lot in common with bands like Mantar, and they're really getting better with each successive release. They've got a new one coming out very soon actually.

There's a lot of other bands that i've left out, but i'll likely post them as this thread progresses.

As a whole, the Arizona scene is fucking impressive. Tons of extreme metal bands, and when it's the right season there's a lot of really cool shows. Thanks largely in part to the promoters we have, who manage to book a lot of great bands.

I'm still new to the local scene but here's some Maryland metal, mostly based in or around Baltimore.

Funerary Descent (2-man Black/Doom from Annapolis) - Any of you still on metalthrone already know them.  I'm besties with the guitarist and he and I are also working on some stuff.  They have two demos, the first is self titled and they hate it.  It really isn't that bad.  The second, Winds of Dissonance has been described by Sargeist as "not terrible".  It is really good.  They are planning to start performing live within the next month or two and are currently writing new material.  I've been to a couple rehearsals and can confirm hype.

Xeukatre (Black metal from Baltimore) - FD knows more about them than I do.  I enjoy what I've heard.  Very LLN inspired which is always a good thing in my book.

Putrisect (Death metal from Baltimore) - A Baltimore metal scene favorite from what I've gathered, Putrisect are a solid death metal band with some grindcore thrown in.  They open for at least half of the shows in MD.  The time I saw them they were good, but I'm not the biggest fan.

TRIAC (Grindcore from, you guessed it, Baltimore) - This one appears to have been more active than the others.  I just found it I think a day or two ago, so I'm not the best archivist right now.  What I have heard leans a bit towards the punk side of grindcore.  It's very bass heavy with good riffing so it really can't be called bad.

Heat Death (Solo harsh noise project currently based in Baltimore, has moved around before and is new to the scene here) - I don't listen to a lot of electronic stuff in general, but I do like a bit of his work that I've listened to.  I have met and rehearsed with him and he is doing drums in a thing I am involved in.  Good dude.  He also does booking.

Again, still new to the scene, so I'll add to this as I delve deeper.

Also close enough to me to count here is Embra, a brand spanking new black metal band from Virginia who I really fucking love even though they only have two untitled songs.  They were fantastic live and their demo is a good time.

Also Dying Fetus is from Annapolis and I've rehearsed at the studio they use.  So that's something.

I'm far too fucking cool to associate with any scene in this dunghill town.

I've been in a state of political exile for about 2 years.
