I knew Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's child were too grim for the likes of you two.

I can't remember the last time I listened to either but I like Dimmu's first two albums.

I just can't fathom why people always pick Filosofem when Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Det Som Engang Var exist.  Sigh, at least you put the S/T over it and I can't stay mad at someone who likes Those of the Unlight.

Filosofem is amazing. I generally actually prefer his newer records

Of his post-incarceration stuff I've only heard Belus and Fallen.  Belus was basically a rehash of Filosofem, but I do like Fallen.

I HATED Fallen when it came out, and was greatly disappointed. Then I realized that I was trying to be more elite than Varg and that the reasons for which I listen to music were purely for show. This depraved and wretched act of self-reflection thus leveled me up in Kvltness, resulting in that now I appreciate and enjoy Fallen. There is no irony here, only the cycle of black metal.

That more or less happened to me. In fact I might go revisit the latest record

I haven't heard any post-prison metal from Burzum apart from Belus. It just seems like his heart isn't in it for some reason.

Good list though. I misread the title originally as "most disappointing" or something, I think. No Darkthrone, though? Might make a list too, just to be a slut.

I thought about putting blaze in the list but I don't feel that it's really all that black metal. And I'm the only person in the world who likes Transilvanian Hunger. I like it so much that I spell it incorrectly, like they did.

Speaking of Darkthrone, are they shit now or what? I was appalled by the abrupt crust direction of the cult is alive, and haven't listened to much they've created since. I bought ravishing grimness because come on that kind of tongue in cheek could have originated on this forum, but found it mediocre.

Transylvanian Hunger got me into black metal.  You are not alone my friend.

Their newer stuff strikes me in a very specific mood but generally I don't bother with it.  The song they released from their upcoming album is good though.  It's reminiscent of Panzerfaust.
