Empyreal

A DSBM project from my neck of the woods. The guy who started it is a friend of mine, draws influences from a wide range of other projects, including Xasthur and Sapthuran. Very reminiscent of mid 00's California black metal.
He's got at least one release recorded, last I heard he was looking to get it pressed someplace. He's got a pretty killer live lineup, they're doing a mini tour later this month along the west coast.

Only one track up on the bandcamp, but I'll see if I can get hold of something more to post too.

I think I saw his stuff floating about the webs. I recall thinking good things. I also recall seeing a lot more material, so I may be recalling another band.

Great atmosphere, definitely reminiscent of Xasthur.  Hope to hear more in the future.

I can't listen to Xasthur anymore after seeing him in that youtube documentary where he shows off his BC Rich Warlock and claims that having a good guitar has exponentially increased the quality of his music. RLY XASTHUR, THEN WHERE'S THE GOOD GUITAR? Is what I'm saying.

I watched Varg's lecture on good and evil and I still listen to Burzum.

I get your point, but Burzum's whole appeal is the fact that the face of its music is a cartoonish villain and yet  you can be thinking about that and it doesn't color the music in a negative way.

Once you see Xasthur, you don't have to try and like Xasthur's music anymore. It's ok to give up now, you're not missing anything for lack of trying, your suspicions that the guy making the music is doing so while eating three day old spam from a tin can covered in cat hair were correct and you can put it down without feeling guilty about not giving it the chance it deserves.

Oh I know.  I love Varg.  He so silly.

I haven't listened to Xasthur much since the loss of my library a couple years ago (I still have a ton of obscure dsbm that I need to recover), but I used to be all over that.  I don't think Malefic being a tool would change my opinion of the music.
